US Soccer’s reported agreement to hire Mauricio Pochettino as its next men’s head coach is set to be finalized imminently, according to a new story.

News broke last month that Pochettino, most recently the manager of Chelsea, would coach the USA, but no official announcement has been made since.

However, World Soccer Talk has reported that US Soccer executives are travelling to Barcelona today to get the deal over the line, with an announcement possibly coming as soon as today.

The site added that Pochettino will film a short video to be released with the official announcement, as well as finalizing the necessary contracts.

Pochettino is not yet in place for the team’s friendlies vs. Canada and New Zealand this international break, so interim coach Mikey Varas is leading the squad.

Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly agreed to become the new head coach of the USMNT

The team’s official X account concerned some fans when discussing Varas’ role earlier this week, as they wrote that ‘the search for a new head coach [is] continuing’

However, it appears that the Pochettino is set to be finalized.

Pochettino, 52, has top-flight experience with Chelsea, Spurs, Southampton, Espanyol and PSG – whom he won three trophies with.

The USA will face Canada on Saturday, September 6 before playing New Zealand on September 10.
