William Saliba has stressed that he and his Arsenal teammates are determined to go one step further and win the Premier League this season.

Speaking exclusively to Mail Sport at the PFA Awards, the 23-year-old said: ‘Yeah, of course we have that extra desire and hunger. The last two seasons we have come so close. We want to win and fight again and be there at the end.’

Mikel Arteta’s side have been pipped to the title by Manchester City in the last two seasons and Saliba insisted that Arsenal must ‘do more’ this time around to win their first league title since 2003-04.

‘We are close but it’s not enough,’ said Saliba. ‘We need to more more and we will try our best this season. It’s a new season.

‘We are fresh right now and started well on the weekend but there’s no pressure right now. There’s a lot of games,’ he added.

The last time that at least five Arsenal players made the team was 20 years ago – after the 2003-04 Invincibles season under Arsene Wenger.

And Saliba was full of praise for his club captain Odegaard, who was pipped to the PFA Player of the Year award by Phil Foden.

‘We are lucky to have him,’ said Saliba.

‘He’s a great leader who we all look to and I hope we can have a great season under him again.’
